CohuHD Costar is seeking an experience Technical Writer to continue to document our hardware products and create context sensitive help files for our software products. We have three series of durable cameras that each have an installation manual and operations manual. The software for these products is a JQuery based web application with HTML help files. The documentation is currently maintained using Madcap. Most of the work will take place on-site in San Diego, CA – but some work can be done off-site.

Midwest/Southwest Field Applications Engineer

The company develops, manufactures and delivers mission-critical solutions for transportation, military, industry, science, education, and other markets and applications worldwide. CohuHD solutions integrate the latest high-definition video imaging and compression technologies into our ruggedized camera products. For more than 50 years, we have manufactured in the U.S.A., with the mission of providing the most reliable, rugged, outdoor PTZ cameras in the market.
Provide technical support for CohuHD video solutions products with the primary focus on network integration and protocols. Work directly with Customers, Sales Force, Engineering and others to troubleshoot network integration or CohuHD product issues.
Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:
Troubleshoot network or serial interfaces.
Capture and analyze network and serial data.
Perform firmware testing for the purpose of product improvement.
Troubleshoot PC platforms to resolve compatibility issues related to IP video.
Perform product sales training on CohuHD products for sales and customers as required.
Write technical reports & white papers regarding findings from support calls or firmware testing results.
Provide presale technical support as required.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility: None
Education: B.S. degree in Computer Science or Networking Technology. Also considered: Network certificates such as CCNA and Network+ or higher.
Experience: Minimum 4 years’ experience with networking technology; experience in security or CCTV industry highly desired.
Working knowledge of complex Ethernet based network configurations, design, and video compression technologies.
Competent in Linux and Windows platforms and application software relative to IP video.
Working knowledge of IP video system architectures.
Working knowledge of Wireshark and network protocol analyzer tools.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong ability to collect data, analyze and synthesize information.
Proven ability to identify and resolve problems in early stages and use sound and accurate judgment when making decisions.
Ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority.
Strong customer facing and interpersonal communication skills.
Job Conditions: Office, engineering laboratory and light manufacturing environment.
Physical Demands/Strengths: Domestic and International travel required.
There may be prolonged sitting at computer terminals using keyboard and mouse. The ability to lift up to 35 pounds is required.
